50th Anniversary Hymn
CLC has it own Hymn -- "God's Redeemed--Beloved and Holy", set to the tune of  Rustington.  It was written for us by Pastor Steve Starke (St. John-Amelith Lutheran Church and School, Bay City, Michigan) as a way to celebrate our life together at CLC as God's redeemed family.

The first four stanzas speak of our life together at Cheshire Lutheran, while the fifth stanza points the congregation forward to its ongoing task of walking together in love until each of us leaves the Church Militant and joins the Church Triumphant.

See the full text of the Hymn and an explanation of the meaning by its author.

50th Anniversary

We're celebrating our 50th year as a congregation!  It was on December 9, 1956 that the charter members of our congregation came together at the Cheshire Grange Hall for worship for the first time.  Throughout 2006 we will be observing and celebrating fifty years of Christian worship, witness, fellowship, and service in a series of special congregational events.  We will be giving special thanks to God for the past half century of our life together as God’s redeemed people.  We are inviting all former members to join our celebrations over the next year.

Some interesting historical information:

So far, the special events that have been planned by our 50th Anniversary Committee for 2006 are:

  • Sunday, January 8th - -We kickoff our Anniversary Year with a single service of worship at which we will introduce and sing a newly-written hymn commissioned by the 50th Anniversary Committee.  This service will include the installation of the 2006 Council and our congregational meeting.  It will be followed by a coffee hour.

  • Sunday, March 4th — We will sponsor a concert by the Susquehanna University Choir.

  • Sunday, April 16th — We will have an Easter Sunrise Service, followed by breakfast.

  • Sunday, May 28th -- We will remember PFC Gary Richards, the first Cheshire casualty of the Vietnam War. Gary and his parents were members of CLC, and the Bell Tower was erected in his memory.

  • Sunday, June 11th — At our Annual Picnic, we will recognize past and present parish presidents and charter members.

  • Sunday, October 22nd — Our worship services will feature music selections by the vocal and handbell choirs including former members.

  • Sunday, November 12th -- We will have a special salute honoring past and present members of our armed services.  Service uniforms, pictures, and medals will be on display.

  • Sunday, December 10th — Our anniversary celebrations will culminate in a special 50th Anniversary Service with guest preacher, Dr. George Heider.

Please plan to join in these special events and to celebrate together CLC’s fifty years of Christian worship, witness, fellowship, and service.
