Someone else will do it…..

How often have you heard that saying? Well it is one that not only applies to our work, families, and community service aspects of our lives, it is one that certainly applies to our church. The truth of the matter is, we have fewer and fewer members performing more of the duties that it takes to operate this church. This isn’t a good situation, and for a lot of reasons. It wears the people out who do the most; and it means that everything that needs to get done, doesn’t get done. And it means that some of the things that are being done are being done by people who have less of that specific talent than other members. But the worst part of it all, and this is the truth, is that it doesn’t allow our members who aren’t participating to feel the satisfaction of serving our Lord. That is something that none of our members should feel.

So what can you do about it? It really is very simple and there is no reason to worry about not being accepted – because whatever task you volunteer for, you will be accepted –I guarantee it! No matter what you think of your voice, the choir needs you. No matter how limited you think your mechanical abilities are, Ed Schweitzer can put you to work. Need something pretty painless- volunteer to set up for coffee hour for the Drusts some Sunday morning. Serve as a greeter, bring the food donations to the drop off location in Cheshire, help put together articles about our church so more folks know about us. You get the idea, the list is pretty long and we need everyone to help out in some way.

I can assure you that after performing this one duty you will feel a lot better. You’ll feel good about the service you are performing. You’ll enjoy interacting with our other members more. You’ll appreciate the work our other members are doing, and not take it for granted “that someone else will do it”. I was amazed at the number of talented people that “came out of the woodwork” during the church building program. It really was inspirational to see how well they worked and how much they enjoyed their task and fellow members!
